Sherlock Holmes relates a story from his earliest days before Dr. Watson had become his friend and chronicler. In this tale Holmes is drawn to Hardwick Hall in the south of England, which has an eerie sobriquet The Spider Web. The young detective matches wits with a wily and dangerous criminal. In this mystery Holmes first demonstrates the skills that would do him in good stead in the future.
This is a novel length story typical of the Holmes tales and is the fourth in the series. The Sherlock Holmes Uncovered Tales are a series of original stories based upon the immortal characters, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The first book of the series is The Eccentric Painter. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are called in on the murder of a wealthy English country squire. The deductive powers of Sherlock Holmes are on full display as he flushes the killer from a group of suspects with perfect alibis.
This is a novella length story typical of the Holmes tales and is available in kindle, paperback, and audiobook format.
The next adventure, The Iron Dog, is now available.
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson become involved in a case that begins with blackmail and then takes a horrifying turn. Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard calls in Holmes for assistance in this baffling mystery. The case of The Iron Dog requires all of the deduction skills that Holmes can conjure as he weaves through deceit and murder. Dr. Watson is there to catalogue all the action in this new thriller. This is a novella length story typical of the Holmes tales and is available in kindle, paperback, and audiobook format.
The third Sherlock Holmes Uncovered Tale, The Mad Judge, is now available.
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are in the countryside on a rare holiday, but matters at a nearby estate draw the great detective and his faithful chronicler from their rest. Holmes and Watson weave their way through a complicated, bewildering crime scene to flush out the perpetrator. But of what crime? This is a novel length story typical of the Holmes tales and is available in kindle and paperback format.

Although he lives in London, Sherlock Holmes seems to find himself in the country frequently whether it is ACD or in a pastiche. This is the latest of the Uncovered stories and it is another novel length tale. I have previously expressed myself as a fan of the shorter fiction because I think it works better with the character of Sherlock Holmes, but this is a well plotted effort and I recommend it. This is a story that Holmes tells Watson and Watson's place is taken by a school friend of Holmes. This changes the dynamic very little except that this character is a potential suspect as Watson could never be. The mystery is a good, though the setting is a familiar one. Rich relative + greedy relatives = trouble. I like that there is a mystery or two after the main mystery as it fleshed out the characters a bit. There is a lot of Holmes fan fiction available and I find few completely satisfying. There are not many efforts that are true to the canon as well as entertaining. Outside of Hugh Aston, Mike Hogan , and this author, I do not find consistently good works. I keep looking though because you never know when you will find a gem, so authors keep writing!Product details

The Spider Web A Sherlock Holmes Uncovered Tale Book 4 edition by Steven Ehrman Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This is a good book. It kept my interest throughout, and had enough twists and turns to keep anyone interested. Well written!
Highly recommend this book. Great plot, consistent language, and believable characters make this book a page turner from the beginning.
Great story with many Sherlockian nuances for the avid detective reader. The story kept my rap attention throughout! I am glad I found this series. Looking forward to reading all of them!
I loved it. I have read many of Steve's Sherlock Holmes books and I have enjoyed everyone of them. I plan to buy everyone of them.
Ehrman's stories are clones; I feel like I'm reading the master himself. Terrific reads for those of us who have gone through the entire canon multiple times! Like finding hidden treasure.
"The Spider Web" is the most ambitious "Sherlock Holmes Uncovered" tale to date. In it we have the rich head of the family, the poor relatives living off his largesse with expectations of future inheritances, and the beautiful young girl to whom he becomes engaged an apparent recipe for murder. Into this volatile situation comes Sherlock Holmes, to stay with a friend over the school holidays.
School holidays, you ask? Yes, "The Spider Web" is a mystery that Holmes recounts to Watson about a case that he got involved in purely by chance when he was at college. So it's not a Holmes and Watson story in that sense, although Watson appears at the very beginning and again at the (particularly satisfying) end.
This is an engrossing mystery. I have all four of Ehrman's "Sherlock Holmes Uncovered" tales and this seems to me to be the one that stretches the author the most. In my mind it's more of a classic Agatha Christie mystery than a Sherlock Holmes story, but that hardly matters. It's a good plot, well written except for the usual and frequent grammatical issues that crop up with most self-published books; and if you are paying close attention as Holmes investigates, you will be able to figure out "whodunnit" yourself, because all the clues are laid out clearly. You just have to put them together properly, as Holmes does. Along the way to the solution there are plenty of fun and amazing Holmesian deductions as well.
I had one problem with the story, and that is that Holmes's tale starts out essentially the same as "The Adventure of the Gloria Scott" Holmes telling Watson about the time he became friends with a fellow student who then invited him home for the school holidays. I really wish the author had tried harder to come up with some other way to get Holmes involved with the Hardwick family besides mirroring the beginning to "Gloria Scott." It bothered me a little bit during the entire story and it's the reason I decided on a rating of four stars rather than five.
Nevertheless, once Holmes gets to Hardwick Manor (nicknamed "The Spider Web" by the locals), the story takes off in its own direction. The very first night of the holidays, Sir John Hardwick announces his engagement to his beautiful young secretarial assistant. Two weeks later he is found dead in his study, beaten to death by a war club from his own weapons collection.
At first there is some question as to whether the murder might have been committed by someone coming from outside the house, caught by Sir John attempting to steal the contents of the safe, but Holmes makes some dazzling deductions that disprove that theory and eventually the police are convinced, albeit a bit reluctantly, to allow him an insider's view of the case. Thus he is with the police every step of the way and privy to every bit of information they uncover. Of course, we know he would have come up with the solution even if he hadn't been!
I enjoyed this work in the Sherlock Holmes series by Steven Ehrman. As others have mentioned, this is a 'pre-Watson' story about Holmes as a younger man. We get to see him as a young man, and meet an early friend of his. Watson is there, listening to the story, and I found the story interesting in spite of the fact Watson doesn't actually participate in the mystery.
Ehrman does have problems with missing quote marks and comma usage. He leaves out too many commas, and it tends to make some sentences read in the wrong way. A shame, since I enjoy his work so much.
